My Tier 2 groups from each grade level with use SRA Corrective Reading at their appropriate level to increase fluency and comprehension as well as decoding skills.

August 23 - August 27

Today is the first day of school. We are so excited!

This week in math:

Monday: rules and procedures

Tuesday: place value of whole numbers

Wednesday: place value vocabulary and begin working with decimals

Thursday: place value with decimals and begin expanded notation

Friday: expanded notation and an assessment over what we learned about place value


This week in English:

Monday: essay about summer vacation

Tuesday: review parts of speech: noun, verb, article, complement, subject and predicate

Wednesday: adjectives; writing good sentences

Thursday: proper nouns

Friday: understanding relationships, writing review

It's that time again!

School starts on August 23!  On August 19 at 7:00 pm you can come up and meet your teacher for the upcoming year. 5th Grade Orientation will be at 6:30 in the band hall.

It's the last week of school!

School is almost out and what an exciting year this was! We learned a lot and had some great times!

Remember over the summer to read, read, read! Practice your math facts too. You can make a game out of it!

Week of April 12-16

This week we're learning multiplication!!!! My elementary students are excited about being able to multiply!

My middle school students are doing research projects for Where the Red Fern Grows.

It's going to be a great spring! No school on Friday!

Week of April 5 - 9

We had an exciting week. The 5th and 8th graders took their Math and Reading TAKS tests.

My classes continue to work on their reading, math, and writing skills.

My 7th grade English class finished reading the book Where the Red Fern Grows. Of course, by the time we got to the last page, Mrs. Hamner was crying like a baby!

We watched the movie too. My students didn't think it was as good as the book, but they never do! Books rock!

March 1, 2010 - March 5, 2010

It's March - one of my favorite months! Spring Break is on it's way and so is St. Patrick's Day!!!

This week we are reviewing for our TAKS tests. My 4th and 7th graders will be taking their Writing TAKS test on Wednesday, while my 5th graders take a Science Benchmark test.

Get alot of rest before your test, and do your best!

Week of January 8, 2010 to January 12, 2010

We got the Edmark Reading Program and my first graders are working hard using this program. They are also using their D'Nealian Workbooks to improve their letter identification and handwriting skills.

My third, fourth, and fifth graders are using the Multisensory Grammar program this week to learn about subjects and predicates. They are also using the 4-Square Writing Method to write essays in class. In math, my third and fourth graders are working on subtraction, while my fifth graders are focusing on place value.

My 7th graders are reviewing grammar skills. They also proofreading and writing using different writing prompts. Their writing test is next month!!!

On Friday we will be doing an activity for President's Day. There is no school on Monday!

February 1, 2010-February 5, 2010

This week we've been learning sight words! We've made a sight word ladder and we've also been using a great reading program called Edmark. My kids are really being successful with these activities.

In math we're working on subtraction! This is a difficult concept, but we're getting it!

My middle school reading classes are about to begin the book Holes by Louis Sacher - a great book by a great author!

A new year! Week of 01/04/10-01/08/10

We're back from winter break and getting back into the swing of things!

My English classes are reviewing parts of speech this week. My seventh graders will be getting ready for the writing TAKS test, and my sixth graders are learning about different types or genres of writing.

My math classes are working on place-value.

My middle school reading classes will begin reading The Outsiders this week. What an awesome book!

I know 2010 is going to be a GREAT year!!!
