We're reading the The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This is an awesome book that most middle school students really enjoy.
The genre for the first 6 weeks is realistic fiction. Each 8th grader is required to read a realistic fiction book on their own reading level and take an AR test over that book.
Students can also get started on reading books from The Lone Star List. If they read 10 books from the list they will be rewarded at the end of the year.
